최진욱 CHOI Gene uk

최진욱(b.1956)은 서울대 미대에서 회화과를 졸업하고, 미국 조지워싱턴대 대학원에서 회화를 전공하였다. 그는 일상의 찰나를 포착하고 동시대의 리얼리티를 구체적으로 그려냄으로써 역사적 뉘앙스를 전달하는 작업을 해왔다. 독자적인 리얼리즘을 구축하여 순간의 인상이 담겨있는 그의 작품은 작가 특유의 과감한 붓터치가 인물의 역동감과 사물의 동작성을 잘 나타낸다. 현장감이 느껴지는 스케치와 원색의 대비가 사물 본연의 특징들을 더욱 극대화하고 공간감을 주어 입체적인 분위기를 자아낸다. 주요 전시로는 개인전 학교를 떠나며(아트사이드 갤러리, 서울, 2022); 석양의 헌법재판소(인디프레스, 서울, 2020); 최진욱, 리얼리즘(일민미술관, 서울, 2011); 88만원세대-Memento Mori(대안공간 풀, 서울, 2008); Love is Real (아르코미술관, 서울, 2005); 그룹전균열(국립현대미술관, 과천, 2017); 트라이앵글 (아트사이드갤러리, 서울, 2017); 시대정신전(국립현대미술관,서울, 2013); 히든트랙(서울시립미술관, 서울, 2012) 등이 있다. 주요 소장처로는 국립현대미술관(서울), 서울시립미술관 등이 있다.

CHOI Gene Uk(b.1956) graduated from the Fine Arts College of Seoul National University, and majored in painting at the graduate school of the George Washington University. He has made works delivering historic nuances by catching a moment of daily life or depicting the reality of his times in a concrete way. He has portrayed impressions of moments with his own unique realism that he has cultivated for long. His daring brushstrokes unfold the dynamism of figures and the motion of objects delicately. And his realistic sketch and contrast of primary colors maximize the original characteristics of objects and give an impression of space in a three dimensional atmosphere.
